FAQ & GUIDELINES
FAQ
1. Who can participate?
ANYONE interested in creating/receiving Nirvana in Fire 1 &/or 2 based fanwork is welcome to participate. Be aware that spoilers will abound, so if you haven’t finished the series, proceed at your own risk.
2. How does the Exchange and Claiming Process work?
This year, we will be using the CLAIMING format of gift assignment again.
This means that during sign up, you will define 3 prompts for the gift you would like to receive. Everyone’s prompts will be compiled into a list of anonymous prompt sets (each participant's prompts are one set) and released for viewing.
When claiming starts, you will choose 3 prompt sets that you would like to create for, in order of preference.
Mods look at everyone’s claims and then assign you your final assignment.
This is not an absolute guarantee you will get the perfect assignment, because our job is also to ensure that every participant receives a gift. We will be striking out prompt sets that are claimed more than 3 times as claims come in, so the pool of available prompts will shrink as claiming progresses. Shuffling MIGHT occur depending on how claims pan out. But please be assured we will do our utmost to ensure everyone‘s preferences are fairly considered and that everyone gets an assignment they feel good about.
3. What kind of fanworks are permitted?
This exchange welcomes ANY AND ALL CREATIVE MEDIUMS. We only ask that your gift be a completed original transformative work created for your giftee. Participants can be as creative as they like. Any fan, no matter their skillset, is welcome to participate. Ideas of mediums include but are not limited to:
Fanfic, Poetry, Fan Translations, Podfic, Fanart, Crafts (embroidery, modelling, cosplay, dolls, jewelry, etc), Manips, Fanvids, Gifsets, Fan Music, Games, etc.
4. I’m inspired! Can I include more than one medium in my gift and make it multi-media?
Abso-freaking-lutely!!! The only limit is your imagination. And the time… and your recipient’s preferences…
5. What’s the minimum requirement for my gift?
We are trusting all of you creators to use your judgement in this. As a general guideline:
-1000 words minimum for fic
- 10 minutes minimum for podfic
A lot of other mediums are hard to put a clear measure on. Your general guideline is to produce a completed, standalone work of a quality that you would be happy to receive yourself. If you have doubts/questions/concerns, please talk to us.
6. How will posting work?
All works will be posted to the Archive of Our Own and submitted to our NIF Exchange collection. If you do not have an AO3 account, we strongly encourage you to create one. That said, you may also submit your work to us by email and we will post it under a mod account.
Non-text mediums should be embedded or linked in an AO3 post as well (refer to this AO3 ressource). Don’t hesitate to reach out if you run into any trouble and we’ll help you find a solution.
FURTHER SUBMISSION INFO (SUCH AS THE AO3 COLLECTION) TBA.
7. What about NIF2?
Nirvana in Fire 2 is considered a part of the larger NIF Fandom, and thus is also included in this exchange. We encourage everyone to try and include a mix of prompts from both series if possible. If you haven’t seen it, don’t worry!
GUIDELINES
1. Please be respectful. We are all here to have a good time and no one wants to feel attacked (except by feels).
2. This is a gift exchange, which means you must produce a gift for someone else. Please consider your schedule, and whether or not you reasonably will be able to finish creating a gift in the given time frame, before signing up.
3. Please be sure to comment on the gift you receive. Your santa worked hard on it and it is only polite to acknowledge their efforts, just as we are sure you’d like your efforts to be acknowledged.
4. Please communicate with us and don’t feel guilty about defaulting -- do it earlier rather than later! We understand that life happens. If at any point you feel overwhelmed or unsure about delivering the gift by deadline, PLEASE TALK TO US. We would prefer it if you talked to us early and requested an extension or defaulted rather than stress out and not be able to deliver on deadline. Let’s give our pinch-hitters a chance to work their magic. This is for fun. If it’s causing you stress/guilt/bad feels, something’s not right and we want to help sort it out.
5. If you have any questions for your recipient, please email us at nifexchange@gmail.com and we will forward them for you. Please do not contact them yourself as it will spoil the surprise.
6. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!! This is the loveliest community and we want to keep the love happening! :D
